Our History

2012

Twogere was launched in April 2012 as mental health support group for university students at Makerere University.

The group started with 2 members.

2013

Lauch of monthly group meetings.

2014

Lunch of new mental health support groups [Makerere Business School (1); Kyambogo University (1); and Makerere University (2)]

2015

The number of support groups grew from 4 to 15, and we had over 150 students active in support groups across three public universities

2017

Twogere was registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) operating in Kampala focusing on peer support and raising awareness about mental health issues, particularly in schools and communities.

2018

Launch of anti-stigma campaigns in schools and communities

2020

Launch of "Twogere safe circle" an online peer support group. This was in response to the COVID19 travel and meeting restrictions

Twogere received Ember Spark Award, an international mental health award for our contribution to strengthening community-based mental health services

Twogere registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), with a mandate to operate across Uganda.

Redefining our approach to focus on peer support, public engagement, and strengthening community systems.
